Sheet adjustment

There are several methods of adjusting the Sheet lines for the Jib and Boom.  Here are some pictures and a description of how Fairwind #55 boat was modified to use what I call a z clip.

Take a snap hook from the Fairwind kit and bend it into a Z shape.   Pictured here is a snap hook bent using a Z bending tool. Using wire cutters cut off the excess to end up with  a z clip.

Mark a section of the boom about 3" long where you will drill holes that will accept the z clip.  Use a hand drill or drill press and a 1/32 drill bit to drill the holes every 1/8th inch .

Tie a small ring attached to some Dacron line for the sheet line to pass thru.  This will be used to run the sheet lines thru and to pull the sails in. (ring)

The black elastic lifeline they gave you in the Fairwind kit can be used to hold the the z clip down.  Tie a tight piece of this around the boom.  Use CA glue on the knot so that it won’t come undone.

To attach your sheet lines it is fairly simple now.  Just run the z clip through the ring.  Inserting the the Z clip into the boom.  Then slide the black elastic over the clip to hold it in place.

The result!

Here is a picture of my outhaul arrangement on the end of my booms. (outhaul)
